Juvenile’s 4 year old daughter shot and killed

Jelani

Juvenile’s 4 year old daughter, Jelani, was shot and killed by her step-brother, Tyrone Terrell. Terrell is also accused of killing his mother and another 11 year old sister. This is one of the saddest stories I’ve heard in awhile. My condolences to Juvenile and his family. For more details…

Mischa Barton on Gossip Girl…teardrop

Mischa_2

Booooooooo. TV guide.com has confirmed that Mischa Barton has been approached to join the cast of Gossip Girl. The role is a reoccurring one for the character of Georgina Sparks, "a scheme queen who brings Serena’s checkered past screaming into her present." I am very saddened by this. I actually really like Gossip Girl and I really don’t like Mischa Barton’s so-called acting skills. There’s a reason why we haven’t seen much of her since The O.C. ended. I like the fact that Gossip Girl is comprised of fresh new faces and it doesn’t need Mischa coming in and screwing everything up. This is almost as baffling as when Bebe chose her to portray a sullen dominatrix in their ad campaign two years ago. Ahhhh, I really hope they cast someone else.

Jean Paul Gaultier Tells PETA to ‘Suck It’

Not literally, but figuratively with their fab fall 2008 Collection. JPG paraded every type of animal skin one could imagine in this Paris show. Even the background music had wolf sounds… classy.

Lil Wayne vs. The World: An Addict’s Perspective

Lil Wayne is outta his got damn mind. Unless you’ve been under a rock you know that this fool is always sporting a styrofoam cup of that sizzurp, aka, combo of promethazine and codeine. You should also know that sizzurp was the reason behind Pimp C’s recent death. So you’d think that Weezy would take that into perspective and maybe put the cup down right? Nope, instead Weezy had this to say:

Party like its 1980, but not

2080’s is a crash of ’80s music and the latest in hip-hop.  Its going down tonight at BLVD (Bowery and Spring).  This party’s promotion is too funny!  They say that the music will sound like Jay-Z f*cking Madonna.  What?!  Also, there will be a live performance by the ever fresh, Talib Kweli.  Cover $10.

Super expensive on sale for kinda expensive prices

Barneys_3What I like about the Barney Warehouse sale has almost nothing to do with the fact that its a sale (50% off of $1,00 is still $500 and I still shouldn’t buy it).  It has a lot to do with the fact that you rarely get to see people act so crazy.  You rarely get to see expensive as hell designer clothes tossed on to the floor and trampled, or cash wrap lines around the corner, or grown women snatching shoes away from one another, or somebody hiding items to come back and buy later, or people changing in the middle of an aisle -no where near a mirror- and turning to perfect strangers to find out if what they are wearing looks good on them.

Nobody is immune.  Once, last summer, I spent 3 hours trying on everything in sight just to come out with a single jacket and a ball gown that were both way out of my monthly clothing budget.  But I do love that jacket and dress, so I propose that if you were planning to reward yourself with some designer clothes or accessories, there is no better time than the Barney’s Warehouse Sale.  The sale features super designer, exclusive, and rare brands.  Go, give yourself a spending cap, know that you will go approximately $50-$75 above that cap, but also know that you won’t have buyer’s remorse.

“The New Political Party”

I award this party the Most Hilarious Party Theme of the Year Award!  I almost died laughing because they got real creative with the theme!  I’m not sure whether it will be good or not, but any party that promotes Obama AND has free chicken and waffles definitely catches my attention.  The flier and the posting from Going.com are below:

Shakeobama

Oh yeah we’re at it again…shakin babies and kissing hands at the new ‘political’ party, SHAKE WHAT OBAMA GAVE YA.. Each last Friday of the month we get it in at Galapagos, and this month’s bangout is something not to be missed…

Free travel and being a mentor… at the same time

Pyramid_group_shot

There are so many things to do and so little time.  We work, we want to travel, we want to connect with people who share our same interests, we want to just hang out with friends, we want to give back to our community.  An opportunity to do it all comes in the form of d’Zert Club, an organization that specializes in cultural exploration trips for young African-Americans.

Right now you can apply for a free trip to Egypt sponsored by d’Zert Club and the African Genesis Institute.  This isn’t some win-nothing contest; this is a chance to tour Egypt with a group of 1000 kids between the ages of 7-14 and 500 adults.  I know you’re like "1000 kids, what da!"  But these kids probably aren’t bad, as they had to attend 27 weeks of classes and field trips about African and African American culture outside of school and maintain at least a C GPA.   As an adult you go as a leader and chaperon to events like a Nile River dinner cruise and visiting a Nubian school and village.  When I read that, I was like "sign me up!"  So, you get to do a number of positive things within one vacation.  Visit the d’Zert Club website and trip information page for more details.

ESPN Black History Month Celebration

Some pics from the ESPN Black History Month Celebration at ESPN Zone in NY yesterday. Mainly I put this up because my boo Allan Houston was in attendance. Damn, he looks as good as the day I fell in love with him back in 98. And um, when did Steve Harvey lose the brillo pad top? -PopRotzi DL

Lil Jon releases Wine collection

Liljon

Foolish ass rapper Lil Jon is attempting to get his bourgeois and siditty on by releasing a wine collection. Now I could see if he was releasing a line of 40 ounces or maybe even some wine coolers but I definitely didn’t see wine coming. Perhaps he channeled the Dave Chappelle’ version of himself. Anyways, the collection includes a Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is already being distributed in Cali and is expected to hit shelves in the next two months.         -PopRotzi DL

Michael Strahan says Retirement is a Possibility

Micstrah After finally getting his coveted Super Bowl ring, the Giant’s DE may gracefully bow out of the NFL before entering his 16th season. Now Strahan pulled this retirement stunt last year when he sat out off training camp while he pondering whether or not to call it quits. Some speculated that it was a ploy in order to secure a bigger paycheck but Strahan claims that money had never been a factor in his decision to continue playing. "If that were the reason to come back last year, I wouldn’t have. That’s secondary. I want to love to play." Strahan plans to vacation during the month of March and then announce his decision to his team by mid-April. "I have to find out I want to do it. If I do, then I will do it," he said of returning to the only pro team’s he’s suited up with. "I don’t want to be a used-to-be or a has-been." Good looks son, cuz Lord knows I can’t stand those washed up don’t know when to give it up types.                                                      -PopRotzi DL

Passerby takes bullet intended for Beyonce

I kid I kid. The video is quite hilarious though. Watch it now, we know how quick Beyonce’s people are to snatch all things unflattering of Bey off Youtube.     -PopRotzi DL

Rihanna disrespects Mariah

A video of Rihanna trying to sing Mariah’s "Hero" at a high school talent show recently surfaced. Notice the keyword, trying. What a got damn mess. While she starts off fairly decent it all goes to hell as the song goes on. Maybe you’ll be able to finish watching it, I couldn’t. I hit mute at around 2:27. Barbados, and ya’ll gave this b*tch a holiday? Yeah, live with it. I tell ya, modern technology is f*cking amazing.

New Artist Spotlight: Karina Pasian

Karina

Karina Pasian a sixteen year old, Dominican singer from New York is signed to Def Jam Records. But don’t be fooled, just because her godpappy is Quincy Jones, this girl actually can sing. Not only is she sick on the piano but her songs actually surpass the superficial material we’re so used to hearing these days. This sixteen year old isn’t out there singing about lip gloss or her goodies. In fact, her new song, "Sixteen at War" tells the story of what teenage girls go through on urban streets. This girl is truly talented and I predict we’ll be seeing alot more her in the near future. Her album release date hasn’t been set yet but we’ll keep you updated. Check the girl out for yourself and let us know what you think…

Vulture deems Biggie script dissappointing

25_notorious_lg

NYmagazine got a hold of the new Biggie script and the results are not as amazing as we hoped.. Apparently, the script chronicles Biggie’s whole life, with two thirds of the movie taking place after Biggie is famous.  Rather than focus on a shorter time period, the review notes the movie reads like "a loose-knit highlight reel" or "the screenplay adaptation of Biggie’s Wikipedia page". Womp. Somehow I still have faith, maybe the director will find a really artistic message or something redeeming like that… We’ll see… From the NYmag post,

"It opens with his murder and funeral, then doubles back to his Brooklyn childhood. We get a few scenes of Biggie at home, in the classroom, and on the corner dealing crack; there are some rap posters in his bedroom, and we see him fill a rhyme book during a nine-month prison sentence, but there’s no real explanation given for how he went from enthusiastic fan to one of hip-hop’s all-time most revered emcees. Nevertheless, by page 30, he’s signed to Puffy’s label, and from there it’s a mad, tensionless dash to the end of his biography, with all emerging conflicts — his mom’s breast cancer, baby-mama drama, various love triangles (Biggie, Faith Evans, Lil’ Kim; Biggie, Evans, Tupac) — resolved within a scene or two."

Janet Performs on TRL for Discipline Release

Janet

Janet Jackson’s new CD Discipline came out today and Janet did the whole Good Morning America, TRL,  CD signing thing today in NYC. I’m not sure what made Janet put on this wig this morning of all mornings, the day of her album release… But wait, can we just talk about the fact that Janet is like 40 and she’s still cool enough to perform on TRL? At least she lip synced tho, we could’ve had another Cassie up in there…

Here’s the TRL Video…

New Jay-Z Video: I Know

MTV posted the new Jay-Z video over at the Suckerfree blog.  I love this song but as for the video, all I have to say is, "Here we go again."  The video is very slow motion and shows 4 girls doing 4 unrelated slow motion things. It gets kinda weird at the end, where random special effects start to take over.  I think maybe its not about the video but its more about the song…? The girls like/love a boyfriend, drugs, living rooms, and blowing their breath in the air. I dunno. Enjoy.                                                          -G. Diddy

Concern that Clinton is fighting too dirty

As Obama and Clinton continue to campaign for the pivotal states of Ohio and Texas there is concern that Clinton is losing grace under pressure.  The concern began over the controversial accusation that Barack Obama stole large parts of a policy speech from another politician, Governor of Massachusetts Deval Patrick.  Obama has claimed that the speech was used with suggestion and permission from Patrick, a friend  and adviser of Obama.  Patrick has also come forward and scolded Clinton for the accusation.  At the  CNN/Univision debate last week, Clinton’s continued accusations that Obama is stealing ideas, saying, "you know,
lifting whole passages from someone else’s speeches is not change you
can believe in; it’s change you can Xerox," a statement that brought boos from a crowd that had seemed to be on her side before the statement.

Obamaafricangarb
More recently there have been accusations from Obama’s reps that Clinton’s team has leaked a photo of Obama in Kenya last year wearing traditional African clothing, which some people might confuse with Islamic clothing.  Clinton’s reps say that the accusation is untrue and that they have nothing to do with the photo.
