The Carters Go on Vacation

Beyjay

Beyonce and Jay-Z went on a vacation yachting around the Caribbean in style. Their rented yacht, Galaxy, is 50 feet long and goes for $200,000/week. Recession my ass.

Lil’ Wayne wipes out on stage

Lil’ Wayne falls on stage like the burglars in Home Alone after they slip on the marbles. Like there was a patch of ice on stage. Wow.

Why can’t you share your nuggets with me?

Why can't a brotha get some nuggets? Why can't the nuggets guy reveal his identity? Even if you watch 1/4 of the television that I watch, you've probably seen this commercial and you probably sing along like I do and laugh at how ridiculous it is. I spotted a video of the singer over at Black Web 2.0 where apparently people have been Googling him and he doesn't want to reveal his identity… YET. Ok pump your brakes Divo, I really could care less who is singing the song, the commercial is good, not you. Get over yourself.    -G.Diddy

NYC’s Inauguration Celebration

New York City Hall

If you've ever e-mailed or written to your city council person (yes, people actually do that) then you might have gotten word about what NYC will be doing to celebrate Obama's historic inauguration on January 20th.  If you haven't heard, here is what is going on- As you know, the only sure way to get tix to the inauguration was to be something like a Nobel Prize winner or get them from your congress person.  None of the representatives had nearly enough tix to go around and even if you had a ticket visiting D.C. during the inauguration will cost an arm, a leg, and a whole lot of hassle.

So, the New York City Council along with its Black, Latino and Asian caucus has decided to have its own inauguration viewing at the City Hall Council Chambers.  The actual inauguration will start at 10am, but the doors of the Council Chambers will open at 9:30am on January 20th.  They say that will have big screen TVs all over the place to watch the occasion.  RSVP by January 16th at 212.442.1649 or events@council.nyc.gov.

Gas prices might be going up… again

Crazy Gas Prices

I guess everyone got a short little break from the wild gas prizes that had been raging all summer long.  Now that there is escalating unrest and violence in Israel, oil prices have already started to rise in response.  Well at least gas prices got coincidentally low during the holiday shopping season.

Prediction: prices will start to rise and talk about a better source of energy will definitely gain more momentum.

Diddy Really is Clueless About The “Poor” Thing

Diddy A few days back, I posted about how Diddy thought that by scaling down his day to day appearance he would be helping those who were suffering for the turbulent economic times we're in.

Well, ya boy is taking another stab at philanthropy and shows just how clueless he really is about being poor. Diddy will reportedly be distributing free Ipod Nanos to homeless people in New York. The ipods will come filled with all of his songs as well as a few "inspirational" tunes.

Jesus, where do I begin? Let's see, if I were thinking of ways to help the homeless I'd think about food, clothes and shelter. Perhaps even job training programs but an mp3 player? Diddy, what the fuck are the homeless supposed to do with some fucking ipod nanos? Are they just gonna listen to your ghost written tracks over and over again because my friend, where the hell are they uploading new music at? Are they going to plug in the USB cord to a square cutout in their cardboard box and magically access their itunes account that they pay for via empty soda cans?

Diddy has it seriously been that long since you were running around Mount Vernon that you can't see through all the Ciroc and mink coats that the homeless could use something more than some ipod nanos that they're just gonna sell anyway? I know music is a powerful tool but shiiit, donate some Sean John hoodies or something. At least it'd keep them warm.

Ciara Remixes “Diva” and Has Mixtape?!?!

Like Bey, Ciara claims to have an alter-ego, Supa C ….hmm, riiight. Anywho, I'm guessing that's why she thought it appropriate to remix Diva. And if that wasn't enough, Ciara is releasing the Fantasy Ride mixtape in January. Yes, you read correctly, I said mixtape.

I think Cici has been hanging around 50 way too much. A mixtape? For real though? Alls I know is that if she fucks around features Yayo on one of the tracks, her career is a wrap.

Check out her version of Diva below…

As predicted, I'm not impressed.

Lance Gross and Eva Pigford Engaged!

Evaandlance

Lance Gross popped the big question to Eva Pigford on Christmas Eve and she said yes! We're super excited for this gorgeous couple and wish them the best of luck.

And check out what Lance had to say about Eva awhile back in Clutch Magazine:

We’ve been together a little over a year and a half. We’re pretty serious; we live together. She’s great. She’s supporting me in my dreams and I support her in hers. We really mesh. We’re like in our own little bubble, in La La Land. Yeah, that’s my baby.

Young love. Beautiful and inspiring.

Paris not so far away

Paris New York

An exhibit I keep meaning to and HAVE to see it the Paris/New York: Design, Fashion, Culture 1925 – 1940 at the Museum of the CIty of New York.  Its been going on since October and will be coming to an end in February and is the perfect place to take holiday guests or to visit on all of these days off you're having right now.  The exhibit is all about Paris and New York during the Jazz age and how they really drove the culture and art of that time.  The exhibit covers everything from advertising and art deco to film and people like Coco Chanel and Josephine Baker.

Better use of you computer

Apple Store Workshop

Did you get a new computer for Christmas?  Do you have a bunch of features on your current computer that you don't know how to use?  Or maybe you just want to start learning a little about doing basic art and design on your computer.  There are tons of expensive courses that you can take at almost any of the colleges in NYC, but who really wants to do that for a whole semester?  Well, you can do what I'm planning on doing to brush up on some web design skills… a workshop at the Apple Store.  If you have a new Mac or iPhone and are a first time user its cool because you can take a workshop on getting started with the Mac, but you don't even have to be a Mac user to get some use out the workshops.  You can take a workshop in basic web design or in Adobe Photoshop.  And… drum roll… its free.  Go to the Fifth Ave. Apple Retail Store website to reserve a spot.

Beyonce’s Videos for Halo and Diva

Beyonce released the videos for her songs Halo and Diva.

First let's start off with Halo and how she got the hottie, Michael Ealy to be her leading man….

Um, how f'ing cute are they. If it actually exists, that was definition of true love. Beautiful song, beautiful video.

Ok, onto Diva. If you weren't sold on the fact that Sasha is a hoodrat, you will be now..

The video is um different, especially with the random futuristic bits but something about Sasha's swag is intriguing. I like it.

Essence of the Obamas

The January 2009 Essence just hit mailboxes and will be hitting newsstands soon.  What's so special about the January 2009 Essence?  Well, its celebrating the coming to power of the Obamas.  This issue has 2 covers – one with Barack and one with Michelle – both looking fly. We know that there have been tons of Obama issues of every magazine out there, but the special thing about this one is it exclusively about the Obama's from the African-American perspective… African-American children, African-American commentators, and African-American leaders in politics and arts.  Here are excerpts from some of the things that really hit home:

Obama.cover.issues.art

Our need was so great that it called him and he came.  He came confident, intelligent, including all and excluding none.
-Maya Angelou

Obama's win makes all of us stand taller and feel even more proud.  The voices of our generation were not ignored.
-Alicia Keys

This election means Black parents will no longer have to lie when they tell their children they can do anything."
-Julian Bond

I felt like I was going to pass out when I heard you won.  My family was acting crazy when they heard you won.  I admire you and look up to you.
-9 year old Romelo Wilson

There's more where that came from so pick up this truly special issue of Essence.

Obama’s cabinet by the numbers

Cabinet

20 people
5 women
4 African-Americans
3 Latinos
2 Asians
2 Republicans
… and some people who are still mad because they think they aren't represented enough.  Some are saying there aren't enough women, others say not enough reformers.  People forget that true reform would be trying to represent as many viewpoints as possible.  Obama, the leader of the cabinet is the reformer.  Guess you can't please everybody.
