Mariah Mocks Eminem in “Obsessed” Video

Mariah was spotted on the set of her new music video for Obsessed in New York. If it weren't bad enough that Mariah roasted Eminem vocally, she mocks him in the video as well.

How funny is that. I guess Mariah finally had enough of Eminem talking shit about her.

Supreme Court rules for New Haven 20

New Haven Firefighters

The Supreme Court is on a roll lately with Civil Rights decisions.  They finally made a decision on the New Haven case of 20 white firefighters (aka the New Haven 20) who sued the city when they were passed up for promotions after taking a qualifying test.  The twist?  Pretty much none of the minorities who took the test passed it.  The city decided that the test must be unfair and dangerous territory if it resulted in all of the white firefighters getting promoted and none of the minority firefighters getting promoted.  The city decided to use other criteria for deciding promotions, but I guess the other criteria held all of these white firefighters back, turning into a case of… "reverse discrimination" (I had to say it… there's no other way to say it).  It sounds like the city was really in a damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don't situation.  Maybe that's why the Supreme Court's decision was so split.  5 Justices ruled in favor of the firefighters and 4 ruled against them, with Ruth Bader Ginsberg being the main dissenter.  She just didn't think the city had done anything wrong.

The other twist in this case?  The Supreme Court's decision, no matter how split, overturned the decision of Sonia Sotomayor, the ruling judge on this case in the lower court and Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court.  Uh oh, I just get that feeling that conservatives are about to try use this against Sotomayor.

What’s Good With Yao Ming

Yao

So Yao Ming's left foot injury is alot more serious than everyone thought. News broke today that there is a chance that Yao may miss all of next season but even worse, there's a chance that he may never play basketball again.

Damn. This is horrible news for the Houston Rockets. Let's hope that money can really produce miracles and get your boy healthy. Hang in there Yao!

Madoff Gets What He Deserves

Madoff Sentencing So the old joke about white collar criminals being able to get away with everything except murder and owning an arsenal of machine guns with little more than a slap on the wrist receives on more exception in addition to M to da Stewart (my fond nickname for Martha).  Today Bernie Madoff, that infamous Ponzi Schemer, got his… over… and over… 150 times over, to be exact.  Madoff got sentenced to up to 150 years of hard time.  The judge said that Madoff's scheme of stealing from his rich and semi-well-off investors and giving to himself was "extraordinarily evil."

Judge… you ain't neva lied.  When all was said and done Madoff managed to ruin lives and steal so much money that even after he dilutes $170 billion in assets (homes, cars, off shore bank accounts, that kind of thing.) to be given back to the victims, his wife will still be left with $2.5 million.  What?!  Doesn't that come out to more than the last stimulus package or something?  He's got some of his retired victims looking at life on Social Security or in the poor house.

Madoff should actually be happy that he's going to be locked up for the rest of his life because I'm pretty sure he would get violently murdered on the mean streets of the Upper East Side if he weren't going to jail.  In prison, though, I'm sure that Bernie Tha Boss Madoff will be just fine as the biggest hustler behind bars.  Hope his wife takes some of that $2.5 million and buys Madoff a lifetime supply of soap on a rope and bargaining cigarettes.

Jay-Z Prevents Chris Brown From Performing at the BET Awards

Chrisbrown Jay-z

So as I was watching the BET awards last night which were a hot ass mess, I kept waiting for Chris Brown to come out and do a tribute to the late Michael Jackson. But it never happened. The closest thing we got to a real tribute was from Jamie Foxx and although he was funny, he was clowning it up the entire time.

Word on the street was that Chris was absolutely set to perform and had been working on something really special. However, Jay-Z told show execs that he would pull out of the show if Chris Brown came anywhere near the stage. The big wigs surely couldn't piss off Mr. Jay-Z himself so they conceded and Breezy was axed from the show.

Here's what one of Chris' dancers, B. Shaw, tweeted…

Jay-Z is mad childish. Never keep a person from paying their respect.

So Jay-Z tells BET that if chris performs that he will not perform. Ummmm… Wait for it… WHO CARES!!!

Now I love Jay but I have a huge problem with this. The first being that I think it was extremely inconsiderate for to him to pull that card when the performance was suppose to commemorate the memory of one of our most important entertainers. All night people were waiting for a real tribute and Jay blocked everyone from getting that. Secondly, I almost feel like Jay and Beyonce are letting this power couple shit get to their heads. Rumor had it last week that Matthew Knowles pulled the same, Beyonce will not perform if Letoya Luckett is performing card too. I really don't appreciate either one of them for that and I think they both need a slice of humble pie asap before they get carried away with continuously reminding everyone they're hot shit.

Mike Was A Smooth Criminal

Smooth_criminal_video

Yo I was watching this video today and was reminded of how much I loved watching this when I was younger. I was much to young to comprehend how much swag Mike had though. Jesus, he was cool as hell.

I remember how my brother and I used to practice that forward lean and despite a couple bruises and knocked out teeth, we still never got that shit. We just thought he was a magician.

Anywho, take a couple mins to watch this video again and relive the experience. Be sure to watch that little boy at the end rip his Michael Jackson moves. Too cute. This vid had me smiling the whole way through.

My Thoughts on Michael Jackson

Michaeljackson

Ever since I found out that Michael Jackson passed, I've felt overcome with guilt and regret because for the last couple years, he'd become somewhat of a joke to me. Hell, just the other day I ragged on him for his infamous pajama pant/dressy jacket combo. But if this isn't the perfect definition for the saying "you don't know what you have till it's gone" then I don't know what is. With the news of his passing, all the little things that people have loved to critique him on no longer matter. All that matters is that an icon who inspired so many and gave his whole life to entertain us is gone.

Everyone everywhere has been affected by Michael Jackson at some point in their life. For me, it was my whole life. As long as I can remember, there's been a Michael Jackson and waking up today felt wierd as hell. There was something noticeably different. For never meeting this man a day in my life, it's amazing to me the emptiness and sorrow that I feel.

During the non stop coverage of this event I can't help but be appalled to hear folks on the radio and tv continue to cut this man down even the wake of his death. Was the man strange? Fuck yes but dammit bitch you would be too if your whole life was spent in the public eye of the whole world. The level of celebrity and fame that Michael reached far exceeded and spanned out longer than that of any other person, ever. There wasn't a corner in the world that he could go hide and be a regular person. He didn't even have a childhood and therefore never had the chance to figure out who he was as a person before entering the rigors of the music industry .  Most child stars fall off at some point and become hasbeens and with that are afforded the chance to try and transition to some normalcy. But not my dude Mike. He put it best by saying "I was a veteran before I was a teenager." The man ain't never lie. At the age of 10 he shot up to the top and stayed there for the rest of his life. And if you think a Beyonce stan is bad…ain't nobody got shit on an asian Michael Jackson fanatic. Knowing the crazy impact you have on people all over the world has got to be mind boggling. So ask yourself if after all that coupled with the task of making great fucking music if you'd be able to fit the "normal mold."

We should be celebrating this man's life and thanking him for the insurmountable number of classics he's left us as well as for him influencing so many of our favorite artists today. I am personally grateful to MJ because when my father first came to this country, it was Michael's music that bestowed the gift of swag to him. Without said swag, my father would have undoubtedly never bagged my mom so I owe Mr. Jackson my life. I'm sure there are plenty of other 80's babies who do too, whether they know it or not.

No matter your opinion of him, MJ is a legend who has touched all our lives in some way or form and made them better because of it. We definitely lost out yesterday.

RIP.
