Another trailer for the Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie, Inception just hit the streets and boy does it make you wanna see that movie yesterday.

Not entirely sure what the movie is about but that doesn’t make a difference at all. Christopher Nolan (director of the Dark Knight) is behind iy so I know it’s got be top notch quality.

Movie hits theatres summer 2010.

The Karate Kid (2010) Movie Trailer

Here’s the trailer for the new Karate Kid movie coming out next summer with Will Smith’s son, Jaden. The trailer looks dope although I’m not gonna lie, doesn’t seem right without Mr. Miyagi. Jackie Chan looks like he does a good job though…

Awww, Jaden is too cute and talented too.

Can’t wait for ‘The People Speak’ premiering December 13th

It might be a little premature to put out a reminder, but honestly I am anticipating the premier of The People Speak on the History Channel like a 14 year old girl waiting to see Twilight New Moon (Team Eddie, Team Jacob… Team Get-the-ef-out-of-my-face-with-that-BS).  The People Speak is the highly acclaimed film based upon A People’s History of the United States and Voices of a People’s History, two books by Howard Zinn, who also narrates the film.  The buzz on The People Speak has been building since the summer of 2008.  Since then it has been drawing major props at a number of film festivals and college tours.

The People Speak is a series of performers (actors, poets, musicians) performing narratives and speeches straight out of some of the United States’ most pivotal moments in history, times when people lent their voices to efforts for change and justice.  The film highlights that although the U.S. has had some pretty tough times, there have been tough, passionate, and courageous people there to rise to the occasion.

Another great thing about this film is that the performers aren’t just random, nameless performers or just a bunch of anthropologists (no offense, anthropologists.  I’m just saying you guys are in those documentaries sometimes looking like you’re kinda from another planet).  The performers are legit some of the best of our times.  Performers include Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Marisa Tomei, Lupe Fiasco, Sean Penn, Rosario Dawson, Benjamin Bratt, Don Cheadle, Morgan Freeman (of course)… and so many more.  The list of people in The People Speak reads like a list of red carpet celebs at the Oscars or Emmys.  Sooo… needless to say I’m pretty excited about this.  Get Fresh U.S. History 101 first assignment: Watch The People Speak on December 13th at 8pm on the History Channel.  Extra credit if you tweet a little bit about it.  Watch the below trailer.  I promise you’ll get chills.

Iron Man 2 Movie Poster

Here is the new movie poster for Iron Man 2 which is set to hit theatres on May 7, 2010. The other dude in the pic is War Machine who will be played by Don Cheadle (the new Terrance Howard). On another note, sources say that Robert Downey Jr. had a significant role in the writing of the script which I think is great because that fool is funny as hell.

Can’t wait to see this flick.

LA Premiere of “Precious” Red Carpet Photos

“Precious” is definitely a must see. Make sure you go prepared to see things that will make your heart wince. This movie will take you to a place where I hope no one has to go in real life…

But on a lighted note, here are some photos from their LA Premiere. Calling it and LA Premiere gives me hope for a New York Premiere!

By the People: The Election of Barack Obama on HBO Tonight

This is gonna be great…It airs tonight on HBO at 9pm. Check out this deleted scene too:

By the People; HBO documentary about the election of Obama

I can hardly believe it was almost a year ago that Obama was elected President.  You can dispute many things about President Obama, but looking back you can't dispute that his candidacy and the 2008 elections were a revolution in that they involved a large and diverse cross section of people and introduced a whole new generation to the power of voting and their ability to enact political change.

On November 3rd, the anniversary of the election of President Obama, HBO will premier the documentary By the People: The Election of Barack Obama.  Check the trailer.  This little kid cracks me up!  That's exactly how I was feeling whenever I tried to talk to people about Obama and they just didn't get it.

It will be nice to relive this epic time.  The documentary airs on November 3rd at 9pm on HBO.

Coco Before Chanel

Fashion fanatics all know the mark that Mademoiselle Coco Chanel has left upon the fashion world, but I had wondered if she was always a socialite and outrageous revolutionary designer.  Well, with the U.S. release Coco Before Chanel on September 25th we'll have a chance to take a glimpse into the earlier life of Coco.  From the previews the woman had cajones, starting off as a worker, but eventually getting it in with the wealthy… scandal, scandal.  Unfortunately this movie is in French (it was released in France in April under the name Coco avant Chanel) and has subtitles.  However, I'm sure fashion fanatics will get over it just to see this movie.  Check the trailer

Rooftop Films

Rooftop films

As always and, as I am sure has been mentioned before, we here at GFD love outdoor films in the summer.  NYC has plenty to offer, but Rooftop Films might be one of the most interesting.  Rooftop Films are in a different venue, usually the rooftop of a school, every time and they show film shorts and animation films.  Now, I have admit some of these films are mad weird artistic, but that is part of what makes them fun.  Its not like you're going to one of these rooftops to see a movie you already have on video or is a made for TBS movie.

If that wasn't tight enough, if you can deal with the hipster crowd (I personally find them amusing), there is usually a DJ prior to the films.  Afterwards there is a bar in the neighborhood that everybody can head to for drink specials.  Also, part of the proceeds go towards helping the school where the film is being shown.  The next one is the kick-off event for the Animation Block Party which runs from July 24 – 27.  The kick-off is on July 24th (today) at Automotive High School (50 Bedford Ave.) in Brooklyn.  Come a little early to enjoy the DJ and to get an actual chair to sit on.  Its first come, first serve ad sitting on that concrete through a couple of films is not so much fun (know it first hand and for a fact).  Afterwards all attendees can go to Bar Matchless to get free beer.

Films About How Young People Are Speaking Up

One thing this past presidential race taught us is that the youth are ready, sometimes waaaay more ready than some of the older people of voting age, to speak up and be informed about their politics.  We were all over Facebook and YouTube and on the candidates websites getting informed and giving our two cents and there is no proof exactly that it made a difference, but you can't help but think that it really did.  This weekend Youth Voices Uncensored, a free event at the New York Film Academy at 100 East 17th Street, handles just this subject.  10 films all about how youth are finding new media as the perfect way to express themselves and their social and political views.  The event is organized by the National Coalition Against Censorship, of course.
