Tyler Perry doesn’t appreciate Spike Lee’s criticism
So of course Spike Lee has criticized Tyler Perry for his Madea movies and his impersonation of the fictional, loud mouth, gun-toting matriarch. Spike Lee thinks of Tyler Perry’s acting of Madea as “cooning.” Of course Tyler Perry didn’t appreciate the criticism. But #cmonson. We know what cooning looks like and Madea is definitely cooning. Case in point:
However, all of the Madea movies are pretty positive (once you get past the physically and emotionally abused women, the triflin’ husbands, and displaced children) and Tyler Perry is one of the only black directors out there making movies about black people and for black people with a national distribution of his films. I can see how he would feel salty about being criticized by Spike Lee. Here is what Perry had to say on 60 minutes
